where it all began

I'd like to take the time in telling all my fellow Worcester group and others from around the UK who attend the Worcester tournaments

how it all began for me

well lets start from

year 2000

i was just turning 16 where i meet my best mate to be Andrew crehan he meet through attending Northfield markets our area where we live i would usually go there to pick my Pokemon packs up that i had been saving up for money was hard for me then having to rely on my parents for pocket money so we made our 1st trade and found out we only live 2 mins away from each other time had past and about 7 weeks in we become very good pals we both completed our sets we were collecting mine was jungle his was fossil

we then went to Northfield again and was told that there was a market stall in the bullring markets that sold a larger scale of Pokemon and they sell other card games

so we planned on the following Saturday we should head there and take a look he stopped at mine the Friday before Saturday the Saturday morning we were watching Pokemon and we were both chilling and we couldn't be bothered to get up to change the channel so we just watched what was coming on turned out to be a show called yu-GI-oh

the show that changed our life's forever

that Saturday we found packs of Japanese yugioh packs blue eyes packs and phantom god packs i pulled blue eyes white dragon while Andrew pulled red eyes black dragon lol how ironic

2001

it had been over 7 months since we had 1st brought our 1st yugioh packs

we had a pretty decent collection of Japanese  cards we then visited the shop in Birmingham to find they were now selling English cards packs of blue eyes white dragon i brought my 1st pack to full tri horned dragon i was thrilled it was a secret rare i found this out via the INTERNET from the library

so it had been about a year now into yugioh and we found out from another friend we meet through yugioh James hes also attends Sutton coldfield hes the big lad 3 times bigger than me

anyhow he told us that they were holding the 1st ever UK championships of yugioh here in Birmingham me and Andrew were thrilled we both helped each other with our decks myself running a real bad deck aswel as andy by thistime magical ruler was just relased but we found it extremly hard to obtain cards at this moment in time we didnt know of forums nore we didnt know aout online sites so we had to make do with what we had

we both attended along with james  i went 2-3 and andrew went 3-2 james went 2-3 yea extremly bad after the nationals we did alot of trading and i managed to trade alot of my jap cards for my 1st ever jinzo i was pretty much 1 of the 1st to get a jinzo it was 1st edition and i still have it to this day in my folder ask me and i'll show it you if u wanna see it i also got a set of exodia and a set of final with i was over the moon with

2002

the year we "quit"

myself and andrew now had a very big collection of cards only trouble was we had no1 else but each other and james to play yugioh with
we we decided to quit the game of yugioh and take all our stuff to nostalgia and comics at this time they were buying cards we went in i was about to ask how much for all of this where we meet mark harris

other than james i had never meet some1 else older than me that played yugioh we got off to great start and we would meet up every couple of weeks at the virgin megastore where they had an internet cafe we showed me and andrew websites of yugioh by this time i priced my yugioh cards by what greylight were selling them at lolz

i brought a few things from greylight jap cards then found out greylight were going to hold tournaments around the uk 1 of with was birmingham

andrew had quit by this time

2003
myself and mark harris attended the 1st cardshows tournament again we both done pretty bad in

but we learned there would be another this time i got andrew to come and he enjoyed it

a few weeks had past and mark had told us of a tournament held once a month in sutton coldfield

so we both meet mark and went on the bus 1st time i had been so far away from home in where i got my 1st ever top 8 with exodia with meant alot to me andrew failed and just got in at 9th place

we meet the likes of

mike griffiths
dez clarke
and nayan sharma top birmingham old skool player

we then attended the next 1 then the next then the next for a full year we went to sutton coldfield events but didnt win 1 by now myself and andrew were addicted to the game

2004

the era of chaos

by now myself and andrew had tier 1 decks full on chaos decks

by this time we had a new team

team viper
with was

me
andrew
james
and dez

dez  told me about marston green tournaments and the next 1 that was on sure enough me and diggy went

we both went 4-1 and got top 8 in with i had to face diggy him been the better duelist then he beat me badly and i lost he went on to win his 1st tournament ever winning a box of invasion of chaos

a few weeks after the tournament dez then tells me that they also hold tournaments in coventry

so we attend there and meet even more great friends

who still to this very day are some of my good pals

2005

it had been over a year since andrew had won his 1st tournament but by now he had won a regional and a city championship and with me not winning nothing

i was so depressed

he had nationals very soon and the very next day we had the sutton coldfield 1st ever regionals

over 100 people turned up for it and i was running scientist ftk the very deck that andrew had won a regional with it was his deck

i went 5-1 in swiss loosing to burn

then got top 8 and won it was only a top 4 qualifier then and i was so thrilled i had qualified for my 1st ever national championship

we both went nationals andrew got 26th out of 200 and i got 113th out of 200 good for him again bad for me

yet still not to win a tournament

i started to realize was  i a good player

2006

the era of stein

stien had just won its 1st shonen jump

i sat there i swaer down for 18 hours building a deck with i called tr0jan stein

the deck was based around summoning stein then playing alod of reasonings to bigger machine out then do loads of lp damege and use traps to burn them

the deck worked a treat

i took it to the marston green and ended up win ning my 1st yugioh event going 8-0

i then took it to sutton and went 7-1
losing in the finals

then took it to the following

marston green got 1st

coventry  got 1st

sutton got 1st

marston got 2nd

sutton got 2nd

i was on a role

then stein gets limited dom dom dom

i still go on to do very well with it

myself and andrew then procedd to try and qualife for the 2006 nationals

by this time

we had formed the most dominant team to ever grace the west midlands

TEAM JUDGMENT

from with still to this day

consists of

myself
andrew
jack
dez
ricky wu
keng hong cheong
nathan
daniel nelson
and sam who we recruited a few weeks ago

we both qualifie via top 8ing sutton again and by now both of us had jobs so we decided to travel a bit and play some different people

we went to the sheffield regional 2006

where i eventfully won the tournament

i got a 2 boxes a pyramid trophy with the millenium puzzle inside with i still have to this day

this boosted my confidence tenfold

making me a very stong competitor for nationals

andrew got 11th and myself got 19th at 2006 yugioh nationals

we then went on to european championships where i got 21st in the 1st ever sanganma trial big side event 500+ people yea i was suprised i ended up winning an ipod video player and 3 boxes

2007

thorugh shonen jump and big tournaments i become very competive in yugioh

though i have slowed down alot

quitting playing yugioh online and concentrating more on selling yugioh

i think i am doutbly 1 of the top ten players of the west midlands of all time

think im big headed look at my accomplishments through yugioh

Awesome story mate. I love how this is looking almost identical to my own story. I started around the same time (like 2001/2002) but didn't play in any tourneys until like 2005/2006, and I was at the same level you were in your first tourney (doing really badly too). I'm curently at the level you were in like 2004/2005 when you started getting top-8s but no wins and I am starting to doubt my own ability. Hopefully next year will be the year when I have a top tier deck and I can start winning regular tournaments an qualify for my first nats. We'll see Smile.
